This years gathering has been organized by The Asiniskaw Ῑthiniwak Mamawiwin and the Six Seasons of of the Asiniskaw Ῑthiniwak.

The Asiniskaw Ῑthiniwak Mamawiwin is a grassroots research group focused documenting the oral histories of the asiniskaw īthiniwak of northern Manitoba. The Six Seasons of the Asiniskaw Ῑthiniwak is a multi-year collaborative project at the University of Winnipeg that supports the ongoing work of reclaiming asiniskaw īthiniwak language, history, and knowledge.

Since 2014, the Asiniskaw thiniwak Mamawiwin has been meeting to document the oral histories of the asiniskaw īthiniwak in northern Manitoba, residing along the Missinipi. This spring gathering will be an opportunity to share the collective work already done and to invite other Knowledge Keepers and Elders from all six asiniskaw ithiniwak communities to help them to extend their work.

Another hope for the gathering is to demonstrate and to discuss best practices for research collaborations between academic and community researchers. Since 2017, the SSHRC partnership project Six Seasons of the Asiniskaw Ithiniwak has focused on supporting the ongoing work of reclaiming the languages, histories, and knowledges among the asiniskaw īthiniwak. This gathering is a supplement to the work that has already been completed and that will be taken up before the end of the grant period.
